Requirements for Exporting Pets from the UAE

Ensure that you are familiar with the specific requirements of the country you will be relocating to. Rules and regulations change frequently, and there are different
requirements for each country.

Client details:

  • Copy of passport / Visa.
  • Flight details.

Pet details:

  • Clients need to first register their pet with the American Veterinary Clinic.
  • Information required:   name, breed, date of birth, male/female, color.
  • Original vaccine records. It is essential to have your animal (except birds) vaccinated against Rabies . The vaccine must not be older than 365days or more recent than 30days. The manufacturer and lot number must be on vaccine records.
  • Pets must be micro-chipped.
  • After a health examination by a veterinarian, the export permit can be issued.
  • European countries have a Pet Travel scheme, if the animal has a Pet passport; the same rules apply for the Export Permit.
  • If the animals are not yet on the Pet Travel scheme and the owner would like to travel with the animals to other European Countries, additional paperwork has to be endorsed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. Tick and flea treatments need to be given 24/48 hrs before departure. Please confirm with reception on the rules and regulations for the different countries.

Re-Importing Pets back into UAE:

  • The Re-Import documents should be issued at the same time as the Export Permit.
  • The above rules regarding Rabies vaccination apply. If the rabies vaccines expires or becomes due while outside the UAE, the pet must be re-vaccinated as needed.
  • The location of the tattoo or microchip must be noted on the request form.
  • A health certificate (valid for 10 days only) issued by an official veterinarian must be obtained before returning to the UAE.
  • A copy of the Export Permit should be attached to the Re-Import Permit.
